A novel that explores very ideal themes that a young woman and a black person can undergo. The issues that the young girl Lucy faces can be seen in another black girls life. She has to learn how to do deal with authority, a man's ego, and her sexuality all at once. The central themes of this novel were an eye opener to the fact that the things discussed in this novel actually happen. It was very realistic.

What is Black Music? Black music is the soul and culture of a black person. It is their life story, their dreams and aspirations, it is their motivation. Black music tells a story of a black person's struggle in every day life. Then again; there is no such thing as black music...music is music. What makes it black is the fact that black people produce and listen to it.
It's Bigger Than Hip Hop The Rise of the Post-Hip-Hop Generation
This book explores the stereotypes of black life in America. It explains how black issues connects to the music but it is ultimately bigger than the music black folks listen to. Whites identify blacks by the music, lyrics, and videos blacks portray in a white mans market. It also shows how the Hip-Hop music does not necessarily pertain to the Hip-Hop Community because of who actually runs the music business. This book tackles the issues and questions blacks and whites have with black culture. The author being apart of the post-hip-hop generation makes it harder for him to report on his findings because he is not on the outside looking in, he is, in fact, in the heart of the discussion.

Dispatches From the Edge A Memoir of War, Disasters, and Survival
Anderson Cooper tells of tragic memories from his life and from his travels to different countries reporting natural disasters. He tells of days going by and seeing the effects tragedy has left of the native people. He feels the need to be there to experience it and to report it so that others can see how bad people struggle before, during, and after the disaster. He also goes back and forth with different situations throughout his life. He tells of how he deals or doesn't deal rather, with the deaths of his Father and Brother. He continues to move and travel to keep himself busy so that he does not have to deal with his feelings and own personal life tragedies. He lives on the edge always waiting for something new to report to keep himself going.

Black Nature Four Centuries of African American Nature Poetry
"the earth is a living thing"
It speaks of all living things big and little, important and ignored. All things formed from the earth have life and a duty upon the earth. The last living thing and the most important is the human being the black human being that has so much to offer to the earth because the earth has so much to offer to the black human being.
"White Things"
Speaks of things in the world being of color but must all other things of color can remain in a white world except the black man. Black men make up majority but White men are free, free to do as they please. They have control of the black man and try to change them to white as best as they can in life and death. Black is ultimately white but not the dull white a white man possesses. The whites pray to the "Man-maker" to send more whites.
